Shifting Power from the Inside Out: Lessons on Becoming Member-Led

  • Greater representation of your membership on staff and in leadership positions.
  • Developing specific internal practices to ensure that immigrant women are supported in taking positions of power — and that they are not dominated by American-born women.
  • Encourage brave conversations about issues of race, class, power and privilege.
  • End white supremacist practices that limit the leadership of people of color.
  • Achieve changes towards a model of collaboration and authentically shared leadership.

This report, produced as a collaboration between Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) and Roadmap, offers a new framework for community organizations to empower their membership in the organization's structure, culture and decisions.

At a time when US authorities are using rhetoric and politics to terrorize and silence immigrant communities, Shifting Power demonstrates how immigrant women can be supported to be the leaders our movements so need.

Both the Executive Summary and the full report are located at the bottom of this page.
