Mission

Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) is an organization of Latina and Indigenous immigrant women with the mission of growing our personal and community power to achieve social and economic justice. Personal transformation and civic-political participation go hand in hand.
We achieve our mission by:
- Growing and strengthening our membership base – being an organization by and for our community.
- Supporting transformation – healing, resilience and empowerment – at individual and collective levels.
- Campaigning against injustice and to grow the power of our community.
- Fostering movements to grow our collective power.
- Growing and sustaining a healthy and powerful organization.
Vision
Collectively, MUA aims to realize the following vision.
Social and Economic Justice
- We organize to ensure that women's paid and unpaid work is respected and valued.
- We seek fair wages and a safe environment for all immigrant workers, especially women.
- We work to free society from domestic violence, war and other abuses of power.
- We want an economic and political system that creates fair conditions locally and globally, so that no one has to leave their country to survive.
- We advocate for freedom of movement for all; immigration laws based on respect for people; recognition of the tremendous contributions of immigrants; and the right to live free from violence.
Families and Communities
- We empower immigrant families so that the parent-child relationship is healthy, and immigrant children can grow up with confidence. We promote a brighter future for immigrant children and youth.
- We seek solidarity between races and among people from different countries, cultures, and immigration statuses. We unify our diverse struggles, recognizing that by being united, power is increased for all.
Personal
- We do this work so that women can live with respect, dignity and self-determination.
- We fight to secure full access for all to high-quality services in the areas of health, education, housing and employment.
- We are proud to be immigrants. We celebrate our cultures and languages, work to preserve them and recognize them.

Values
Respect for the differences, needs, beliefs and aspirations of each person, with a commitment to equity and inclusion. Respect requires understanding, honest and direct communication to build a harmonious and impactful organization. We fight so that each being and our Mother Earth is respected, understanding that we are all interconnected.
Solidarity and Compassion with every being that suffers from injustice. Together, with mutual support, we heal and grow our power. We are interdependent, we see diversity as a collective force and we engage in a common struggle to create a community within and outside of MUA that reflects the world we envision.
Learning is key to flourishing as people and as an organization. We continually reflect and evaluate how we can advance towards our goals. We are interested in freeing ourselves from oppressive ideas, and we seek to cultivate practices dedicated to our individual and collective healing and well-being.
Transparency about our organization's resources with membership, allies and staff is essential to achieving trust and a shared vision about organizational goals.
Self-Determination allows each woman to make decisions for herself; live free of violence and discrimination; and have access to a broad level of opportunities during the different stages of her life, to achieve economic security, health and integrity for herself and her family.
Collective Power means that each woman has power, and that together we have even more power to bring about change. Collective power depends on the empowerment of each individual, and the empowerment of each individual is strengthened by being part of a supportive community.
Our leadership, which consists of Latina and Indigenous immigrant women, must be at the center of our fight and organizing. Our experience, voice, example and wisdom lead us to the best solutions to combat the oppression we have experienced and to sustain a strong organization. Being part of our leadership requires integrity, honesty, responsibility and practicing these values day in and day out.
