About the Organization

Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) is an organization of Latina and Indigenous immigrant women with the mission of growing our personal and community power to achieve social and economic justice. Promoting personal transformation and civic-political participation go hand in hand. MUA offers intensive community organizing and leadership training, mutual support and soul counseling workshops, workforce development training and workers' rights projects, and community organizing and education campaigns that enable women's voices. immigrants are heard at the local, state and national level. MUA is an organization committed to being led by its members. Currently, 24 of the 38 staff members started as lead members at MUA.

Employment Opportunity:

 MUA is seeking someone to provide basic support to new members, primarily at the Oakland office. This includes welcoming them, sharing resources, making referrals, and accompanying them to other agencies. The staff member will be responsible for answering the main MUA line and referring members to the appropriate personnel. They will also support the project's efforts to grow the membership base through outreach, retention, and recruitment. Working closely with the General Meeting Coordinator to identify presenters, they will facilitate and support meeting logistics such as purchasing refreshments and coordinating cleanup. They will also ensure that meeting reports and attendance lists are complete and up-to-date. 

She will give presentations in community groups, schools, hospitals, bus stops, churches, etc., to share MUA's resources and services and to identify and identify resources in the community to keep the resource book up to date. She will work directly with the Facilitator Training Coordinator and support the management of this committee, with the intention of supporting the skills and leadership development efforts of the Facilitator Committee members. Finally, she will be responsible for ensuring a smooth flow of information in the office and that the necessary materials and equipment are available for the proper functioning of the Oakland office. 

Main Responsibilities 

Management of digital platforms

  • Keep the East Bay resource book up to date
  • Support with logistics and facilitation of membership meetings in the three offices
  • To make outreach and follow-up calls for member retention, in accordance with the project goals of growing the base together with the coordinators
  • Make contact with key people in agencies that promote services to identify who we can send references to and who we can invite to give presentations
  • Represent MUA in community projects and in meetings with East Bay community agencies
  • Give presentations in the community to promote MUA services
  • Staffing the Oakland office: opening the door, answering members' questions, and answering the phone line at the Oakland office.
  • Identify members who need professional and individual therapy and refer them to the Mental Health team
  • Support the training coordinators in recruiting candidates, scheduling and conducting interviews, and selecting participants for MUA training.
  • Support in preparing logistics and folders and materials, and on some occasions, facilitate training sessions mentioned above.
  • The facilitator's committee assists the person in charge in managing this committee
  • Support the development of the Facilitators' leadership and skills by identifying workshops or training sessions that will help them and inviting them to participate.
  • Support in reaching members to participate in Civic Political work such as marches, mobilizations, lobbying, etc.
  • Ensure proper documentation of attendance lists for general meetings
  • Deliver recognition and emergency cards according to the organization's processes and criteria
  • Monitor office supplies and prepare a materials list for the Operations Coordinator 

Skills and requirements 

  •  Identify with MUA's mission and values ​​and demonstrate commitment to the empowerment of immigrant women and social justice 
  • High skill in handling individual and team conflicts productively, with empathy and integrity 
  • Excellent time management skills 
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, and commitment to working in all three MUA offices 
  • Intermediate knowledge and handling of technological tools, specifically G-suite applications (such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Sheets, Google Docs), Zoom, Signal, and WhatsApp 
  • Be highly organized and have good attention to detail, as you will be handling sensitive data. 
  • Experience facilitating workshops and presentations in the community, and familiarity with resources, organizations, and community centers in the Oakland area 
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Skills and experience in individual care for women in crisis 
  • Preferred but not required: to have taken MUA facilitator training, and to have MUA counselor training or other non-MUA training that certifies you to work with women in crisis or commit to taking it when it becomes available 
  • Language: High ability to communicate in Spanish in written and oral form, a plus if you speak another language such as English or Mam. 
  • Physical demands: 
    • Ability to work on a computer while seated at a desk for long periods. 
    • Ability to stand and walk for long periods. 
    • Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds 

Salary and working hours:  

Start dateWe will be conducting interviews from now until the end of the year, and the new person starts on January 19, 2026. 

Position requires full-time hours of 40 hours per week 

Hourly pay range $31.25 – 32.69 depending on experience.
