SB321: Health and Safety for All Workers Act

On March 10, 2021, MUA launched the state campaign for Health and Safety for All Workers. Introduced by Senator Maria Elena Durazo, a committed ally of our movement, this bill seeks to reform the California Occupational Safety and Health Act (CalOSHA), which currently excludes female workers. of the Home and leaves them unprotected.

Through this campaign, we demand that the California government recognize the value of domestic work and the health of the Workers who dedicate their lives to it. Especially Governor Gavin Newsom, who vetoed our bill on last year, despite being right in the middle of a public health crisis. During this year, we heard from so many colleagues about the challenges they faced in their jobs due to a lack of awareness in our society about the importance of protecting the health of workers whose work at home is essential work. Women who have left their lives in this job, taking care of homes, children, the elderly of so many families and people with compromised immune systems. Domestic workers who need to feel empowered and confident to have difficult conversations with their employers. Domestic workers who need the support of laws like CalOSHA so that they do not suffer retaliation such as being fired just because they took steps to protect their health and safety at work during a pandemic.

So we invite you to be part of our campaign,  participating in mobilizations, actions, and virtual lobbying in Sacramento along with the California Domestic Workers Coalition. To grow the power of Domestic Workers until victory!
