In Solidarity with Communities in Mexico

Entry |

We express our deep solidarity with the communities affected by the recent wave of violence in Mexico, particularly in the state of Jalisco.

In recent days, Mexico has experienced a significant escalation of violence following a security operation in which Federal forces killed a suspected leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Following this operation, multiple regions saw armed confrontations, highway blockades, vehicle fires, and increased military presence. These events have generated fear, uncertainty, and severe disruptions to the daily lives of thousands of families.

We recognize that this violence affects not only people living in Mexico, but also immigrant families in the United States who maintain deep emotional, cultural, and familial ties with their communities of origin. When violence intensifies, its impact crosses borders, it is felt in our homes, in our phone calls, in our emotional well-being, and in our family decisions.

Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) firmly believes that all people have the right to live with safety, dignity, and peace. We stand with the families who are living in fear, those facing forced displacement, and those whose economic stability and livelihoods have been affected.

As an organization of immigrant women, workers, and community leaders, we understand the profound consequences that violence, inequality, and lack of opportunity have on our communities. Too often, these conditions are among the factors that force people to migrate in search of safety and a better future.

Together, we continue believing in a future rooted in peace, dignity, and justice for all communities.
