This video shows how Mujeres Unidas y Activas, an immigrant women's organization in California, is transforming victims of violence into leaders and organizers for change, and how this process impacts the next generation. The video summarizes a research study done by a team from USF and UCSF about the impact of MUA's leadership development model. It highlights the stories of two study participants, Leti and Ana, and their adult children.

Yesterday, we took a bus full of members and staff to Sacramento for Immigrant Day of Action, a day where we had the opportunity to speak directly with state elected representatives, lobby for necessary policies to improve the well-being of all Californians, and share our experiences with various organizations.

The state bills we championed were:

Funding for legal services: Increase state funding by $60 million so immigrants can access legal assistance and remain with their families.

Keeping Families Together Act: Prevent state and local agencies from assisting with harmful federal immigration enforcement.

AB 667 / SEED 3.0: Open professional and business opportunities for immigrants, regardless of their origin or status.

SB 635 (Durazo): Protect street vendors by keeping their information private from immigration authorities.

AB 49 (Muratsuchi): Keep ICE out of schools and daycare centers unless strict rules are followed.
Safety net for all: Expand unemployment benefits to include immigrant workers who have been left out.

We continue working together to protect sanctuary communities and promote resolutions that guarantee safe spaces where they don't yet exist. The fight continues! ... See moreSee Less

Gathering in the Community Garden

On April 7, the Mam group had a wonderful get-together in the community garden. It was a space to connect with new staff members and allies, and to share how the garden has positively impacted our membership. We also enjoyed a delicious meal together.
