Counseling and Referrals
MUA members receive special training to provide counseling sessions – Peer Counseling – to women seeking support. During these sessions, counselors provide a safe, non-judgmental space to share and overcome difficulties at home or at work. They also provide referrals and information about other community resources and agencies. Our members are certified domestic violence and sexual assault counselors and are here to listen with compassion and confidentiality to all women who call us. Peer counseling is available Monday through Friday in Spanish and also in Mam, an indigenous language of Guatemala.
MUA also works with Ruby's Place (RP) in Hayward to provide Spanish-language counseling to survivors of violence receiving services at the RP shelter.
