Today at Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA), we are filled with feelings of shock, fear, pain, and outrage, and we feel the impact of what this election means for our Latinx and immigrant communities. The ongoing messages of racism and xenophobia that have been promoted, along with anti-immigrant and hateful policies, make it clear that we are once again entering a moral crisis. We know that how we respond as a community will be crucial.
At MUA, we are committed to protecting one another. We want immigrant women and their families to know they are not alone. Women who experience violence or abuse at home, at work, or on the streets should know that we stand with them and that, if they need support, they can find refuge at MUA. We will remain focused on protecting our community and making sure we continue to be a safe place for immigrant women.
We also stand firm in our belief that the fight is not over. We call on all Latina and Indigenous immigrant women to join our movement for dignity and justice. We invite them to recognize the value and importance of their voice and personal contribution. The leadership of immigrant women is more necessary than ever. And to all of our siblings—whether gay, lesbian, trans, or queer; whether Muslim, Black, Jewish, Asian; those with disabilities or immigrants from anywhere in the world; to anyone and everyone vulnerable to the hatred fueled by the political moment, we say that we stand with you in solidarity, and we extend to you our love and political commitment.
Finally, we ask all our allies to continue alongside us and to be prepared to stand at the forefront of resistance when our human rights are threatened or violated, and to do the essential work of changing hearts and minds within their families and communities.
