MUA Denounces the Racism and Violence Directed at Asian Americans

MUA denounces the recent violence directed at Asian American communities, from the violent attacks against Asian Americans here in the Bay Area, to the murders that occurred in several SPAS in Atlanta, Ga, which took the lives of seven fellow women. We offer our condolences and our love to the families of the victims and their communities. We can only imagine how painful it is to go through this as well as the hate and discrimination that has been promoted against Asian Americans during this pandemic.

As a Latina immigrant organization, we recognize the importance to unite together in solidarity with other people of color, immigrants, and communities that frequently are the targets of racism and discrimination. When there is an attack against one of us, there is an attack against all of us.

Thats why we express our solidarity and our commitment to continue to fight for racial justice. We know these events are often misused to justify the criminalization of immigrants and people of color, and to justify abuses by police against our communities. Therefore, we also denounce these opportunistic attempts to use xenophobia and racism to pit us against one another. We reject this and we commit ourselves to work each and every day to deepen the love and respect between our communities and our Asian American neighbors. So that we may continue to build together a safe and healthy society for all of us.
