Watch Inspiring Videos from MUA’s 30th Anniversary Event Here

On September 17th, we commemorated our 30th anniversary with a wonderful event called MUA: 30 Years of Transformative Change and Action. While we weren’t able to have the massive dance party we had originally envisioned, we did manage to create a beautiful online celebration presented by many of our immigrant women leaders.

If you weren’t able to attend, we invite you to enjoy it online!  You can see the entire 2 hour livestream on Facebook here.

Or you can watch 3 short, inspiring stand-alone videos that anchored the event:

The Strength of Women in the Times of the Pandemic  — This video, made in collaboration with BAYCAT studios, consists of testimonies recorded on Zoom of member leaders who have been impacted by the COVID crisis

You are Not Alone — This video is part of a social media campaign we launched earlier this year to reduce the stigma of discussing sexual assault in the immigrant community.  A group of MUA leaders wrote and performed the story in collaboration with theater artist Violeta Luna and videographer Barni Qaasim. This video was funded through Grant 2016-UD-AX-0014 from Office of Violence against Women, U.S. Department of Justice. Views expressed to not represent the U.S. Department of Justice.

The T-Shirt Project — This video was created by MUA group facilitators Luciana Rodriguez and Agustina Amiconi, in collaboration with NAKA Dance Theater.  In order to break through feelings of isolation during shelter-in-place, our members have been making art projects together over video calls, including T-shirts with messages of empowerment and solidarity. [Note: in order to see English subtitles, you may need to turn on the closed captions by clicking the CC button in the righthand corner.]

We are tremendously grateful to the 100+ event sponsors who made our event a success!  You can see the sponsors list here.  With your support, we were able to exceed our $250,000 fundraising goal, helping ensure that in these uncertain times, MUA’s work stays strong.

Adelante!
