Counseling & Referrals
MUA members receive special training to provide counseling sessions – Clinicas del Alma – to their peers. During these sessions, counselors provide a safe, non-judgemental outlet for sharing and overcoming difficulties at home or at work. They also provide referrals and information about other resources and community agencies. Our members are certified as Domestic Violence Advocates and Sexual Assault Crisis Counselors and are here to listen to every woman who calls us with compassion and confidentiality. Peer counseling is available Monday through Friday in Spanish and Mam, an indigenous language from Guatemala.
MUA also partners with Ruby’s Place (RP) in Hayward to provide Spanish language peer counseling to survivors of violence who are receiving services at the RP shelter.
